I can’t shake this song, and it has nothing to do with the recent anniversary of the King’s blah blah blah blah death. I’ve never really thought twice about Elvis as the real living person, only as the legend.
It’s the portriature in the lyrics, the touching details your mind describes only when you are remembering someone you have never met. And the wink and the grin in the chorus.
What a cool musician Gillian Welch is. I wonder why she slipped off of my radar.
